Pointe Shoe Fitting Guide

Here is my guide to proper fitting pointe shoe. I was recently trained by Mark & Keri Suffolk, owners of Suffolk dance and legitimate pointe shoe masters. They taught me how to fit shoes properly and an amazing pointe shoe hack that will change your life! I take you through length, width, toe pressure, how to properly put on a pointe shoe, and what to expect during your fitting. Asking the right questions can make all of the difference. Don’t be afraid to speak up!

It’s very difficult for a dancer new to pointe (first Pointe shoe fitting) to know what to say to the fitter, to be able to explain what she is feeling. It can be a little easier the 2nd time but still not perfect. I got my first Pointe shoes on a visit to NYC a couple of years ago (adult dancer over 50, okayed by a dance physio etc) but was a bit thirteen when neither Grishko nor Sansha had shoes that fit me at all and ended up going to Gaynor Minden. Got my 2nd pair there on another visit last year but still not totally happy with the fit … it gets expensive to keep on trying too!
